A year in review......

So, it has been one hell of a year to say the least. But we have made it through and look forward to the new year ahead.
As most of you know, we were blessed with our beautiful baby girl, Ava, in October. She was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus at the end of my pregnancy and had to have surgery at 5 days old. She had a shunt placed which drains the CSF fluid from her brain. She also was recently diagnosed with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia which means that her optic nerve did not fully develop due to the pressure in her head from the fluid. We cannot tell how this is or will affect her vision until she is a little older. Right now I hope and pray that she is just delayed in her vision, as we are seeing progress but at a slow pace. I will take slow over the other all day long! She also is hypertonic meaning that she has increased muscle strength. This could be neurological, but I believe that physical therapy will help with this. I hope to start this as well as having a vision specialist come in the next few weeks. I will keep you posted on her progress.
As for Tyler, he turned two in October (yep 2 birthdays 2 weeks apart. We will be broke that month!), and he is loving his new little sister! He is a big help and loves to give her kisses on her forehead. He has embraced the change so much better than I ever imagined.
Well, this is just to start off this blog. Please forgive me in advance as I am just learning the ropes of this. It took me days just to get a slideshow on!! I will try to update this at least weekly but probably more. I love to write and type, so this may be a good thing. Until next time.....
